- February 21, 1965- Malcolm X is killed in NYC

- Dec. 6, 1969- The Rolling Stones give a free concert at the Altamont Speedway in N. California. And it is believed that the Hell's Angels there had a hit out on Mick Jagger's life. 4 people died there as well.
- Cassius Clay, aka Muhammad Ali, wins the Heavyweight Chapmionship
- Woodstock- 3 days of peace, love and music
- May 1, 1960- American "U2" spy plane shot down over the USSR
- Stonewall Riots in NYC mark the start for the movement for gay rights
- Dec. 3, 1967- first open heart transplant by Dr. Christiaan Barnard in South Africa
