Alot of the movies he has starred in have been directed by Tim Burton, such as Alice in Wonderland, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, etc.

-He has played real life figures, such as George Jung in Blow, Joseph D. Pistone in Donnie Brasco, Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, the title character in Ed Wood, John Dillinger in Public Enemies.
-In 2003 and 2009, he has been voted Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine

Early Life
-Born to John Christopher Depp, a civil engineer in Owensboro, Ky and Betty Sue Wells, a waitress.
-Is of Native American descent he thinks, either Cherokee or Creek. And according to him, coming from Kentucky, it is populated by Cherokee and Creek Indians
-In 1970, the family lived in Miramar, Florida. In 1978, his parents divorced. He considers the 2nd man his mother married, a man named Robert to be his inspiration. As a result of the family problems he had, he was vulnerable to self harm, with 8 self inflicted scars.

 
1980s
-On Dec. 24, 1983, he met Lori Anne Allison the sister of his band's bass player and singer. He was with a band called The Kids. During the marriage, his wife worked as a makeup artist. They divored in 1985. Later on, he met Sherilyn Fenn, who he met on the set of the 1985 movie Dummies.

 
Acting
-His first taste of acting came when he was asked to star on the Fox TV show 21 Jump Street, which premiered in 1987. This show turned him into a teen idol of the 1980s.

 
Film roles
-His 1st major role was appearing in Nightmare on Elm St, playing a friend of the movie heroine Nancy Thompson(Heather Langenkamp) and also one of Freddy Krueger's victims named Glen. In 1986, he starred as a Vietnamese-speaking officer in Platoon. And in 1990, he starred as an outcast with scissors for hands in the movie Edward Scissorhands, which began his long frienship with Tim Burton.

-His most known role was that of suave, charming pirate Capt. Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which came out in 2003. According to Depp, the character of Jack Sparrow was said to be based entirely off Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, who Depp is very good friends with.
 
-In 2004, he was nominated for an Academy Award for playing J.M. Barrie, the author of the story of Peter Pan in Finding Neverland. In 2005, he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his role in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

-In 2007, he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for the title role of Sweeny Todd, the crazy, murderous barber in Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Legal Issues
-In 1994, he was arrested by New York police for allegedly causing damage to a New York hotel room, and the person who called the cops on him was none other than Roger Daltrey, who was staying in the hotel and the lead vocalist for The Who, all of whom are best known for trashing hotel rooms
-In 1999, he was arrested in London for fighting with paparazzi while his wife Vanessa was nearby. He fought them because they kept trying to take his picture.

Tattoos
- He has a about 13 tattoos, many of them representing someone important or important events in his life. They include a Native American in profile and a ribbon reading Wino Forever, which originally read Winona Forever, but since they broke up, he had it changed to Wino Forever because of his love of wine, over his heart it says Lily-Rose, Betty Sue on his left biceps, his son Jack's name with a sparrow flying toward him on his right arm.
