-Born in Loughton, Essex.
-Childhood years were spent in Chingford
-Mother died when he was 6, and was raised, along with older brother and sister by father who was an accountant
-Graduated in Drama from the University of Kent in 1988
Career
Stand Up
-Began performing stand up comedy in 1988 at Whitstable Labour Club. In 1991, he was named Time Out's Best Young Comic.
Radio/TV
-Between 1997-2004, he starred on the British mystery show Jonathan Creek. He played the title role on the show, a trick deviser for stage magician with interest in solving crimes
-Also appeared in a 2003 episode of Top Gear, landing the time 1:54 in wet conditions. Returned in season 8 and got 1:50.3 in dry conditions.
-In films, he played the father of Georgia Nicholson in the British teen comedy Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.
Personal Life
-Married writer Kate Maskell on Jan. 13, 2007. First child Susie was born on Dec. 9, 2009 and 2nd child, a boy, born on June 18, 2011
