Twisted Sister
-American heavy metal band from Long Island, New York
-They use elements of music from bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and also seem similar muscially to AC/DC
-Their cross dressing appearance coupled with heavy makeup seems to align them with the "glam metal" bands of the 1980s. But they think the "glam metal" tag does not fit their image
-Formed by Jay Jay French in Dec. 1972, and from 1976 on all the songs were written by Dee Snider
-Snider describes Twisted Sister as "Slade meets The Sex Pistols"
-Their best known songs are "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock". Their songs explore parent vs. child problems and problems with the education system

History
-Was originally known as Silver Star
-On Valentine's Day in Feb. 1973, Jay Jay French changed the name to Twisted Sister
-The lineup was Micheal Valentine as lead vocalist, Billy Diamond on guitar, Mell Star on drums, Kenneth Harrison Neill on bass and Jay Jay French
-In Dec. 1974, the band changed lineups. Rick Prince became lead singer, Keith Angel took over guitar until 1975 when Rick Prince failed to show for an audition.
-In Oct. 1975, the band started up again after splitting up. Jay Jay got Kevin John Grace on as drummer, and hired a former friend from high school, Eddie Ojeda. Bassist Kenny Neill stayed. They started doing a glam rock look that emulated and was inspired by David Bowie, Slade, Mott the Hoople, The Rolling Stones and The New York Dolls.
-In Feb. 1976, Jay Jay hired Danny Snider(Dee Snider) to be the new singer. And with new drummer Tony Petri, TS lineup #6 was underway. Their music took a heavier direction, this time taking inspiration from Led Zeppelin, Slade, Alice Cooper
-In June 1982, Snider wrote the lyrics for "We're Not Gonna Take It". And it became one of their best hits
-Videos for "I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It" ran almost nonstop on MTV
-In Nov. 20011, the band reunited and followed New York metal artists Anthrax, Overkill, Sebastian Bach, and Ace Frehley to do a benefit concert for the FDNY and NYPD Widows and Orphans Fund after 9/11
-In June 2006, French and Snider worked together, with Razor and Tie Records, to release a CD of heavy metal Christmas songs called A Twisted Christmas. My sister has this CD, and also has a slight crush on the lead singer, Dee Snider. I agree with her. outside of the crazy Twisted Sister makeup, Dee Snider is really handsome
