The band has a new drummer. Brad Wilk. Geezer Butler, original member of Black Sabbath, is really surprised that original drummer Bill Ward has not returned. But he is impressed by new drummer Brad Wilk, who was previously in Rage Against the Machine
I was really surprised,” the bassist tells Guitar World in its forthcoming April edition. “He had that Bill Ward kind of jazzy swing feel, rather than heavy metal bashing.” Wilk was suggested for the job by album producer Rick Rubin, who produced Rage’s 2000 studio album ‘Renegades.’
For the past year, the band has been planning and writing for their new album '13'. This is the first time in a long time that Ozzy Osbourne has been in the studio with Black Sabbath since 1978. The band's producer Rick Rubin suggested the newbie, and now the band has done 16 songs.
Guitar World talked to Osbourne and Butler at Osbourne's home in L.A. Unfortunately guitarist Tony Iommi could not be there because he had to fly to the U.K. to receive another round of treatment for his lymphoma. Hopefully he does well and gets better quick. Nothing is sadder than a musician getting sick and not being able to do what they love because of it. Prayers for him to get better REALLY quick :D. For those eagerly anticipating the release of '13', it will be released in June
