Did You Know?
-The move was inspired by the Walt Disney theme park ride of the same name
-On the boat that Elizabeth and Governor Swann was on, the figurehead (sculpted ornamental decoration on the bow of boats) at the start of the movie is actually the coat of arms for the United Kingdom and was actually on a real ship. The HMS Victory, which fought in the Battle of Trafalgar
-The island "Isla de Muerta" translates from Spanish into "Island of Dead" and "Tortuga" translates from Spanish into "turtle"
-The skull and crossed blades flag was the flag for real pirate "Calico" Jack Rackam, the longtime lover of pirate Anne Bonny
-Throughout the movie, Keira Knightley wore contact lenses like Johnny Depp's in the last scene on the movie. Considering her eyes are lighter than Johnny's, they had to be dark in the center and light on the outside. She said they made her dizzy, so she threw them away
-In the scene when Will wakes up after the Port Royal siege, he sees a girl sweeping a porch. That girl is Lucinda Dryzek, who played young Elizabeth in the beginning of the movie
-Most of the crew got seasick during production
-The "Jack Sparrow" tattoo on Johnny Depp's arm in the movie is a fake, but got a real copy of it after the movie. But during the movie, Johnny Depp's clothing and smears of charcoal had to conceal a lot of the tattoos he has
-The names of the three main characters in here are all linked to birds: William Turner, a famous ornithologist, Elizabeth Swann, Jack Sparrow

-The substance that Jack sprays on Will after they sword fight is powdered chocolate

-The East India Trading Company really did brand pirates with a "P", but it was on their forehead, not their arm
-The contact lenses Johnny Depp wore acted as sunglasses so he would not have to squint in the sunlight

-There is a tattoo Orlando Bloom has on his wrist, which he got during the making of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, when he played Legolas. It's covered during most of the movie, but you can see it when he fights Jack in the blacksmith shop and below the decks on the Interceptor where Elizabeth reveals she took the medallion

-Keira Knighley's hair was extended because it was short from her other movies
-Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, Christian Bale were all considered for the role of Will Turner
-Keira Knightley almost did not make it to the audition because of traffic issues
-The facial hair on Gibbs is real. Kevin R. McNally grew it to shorten time in makeup
