Did You Know?
-This is the only Shrek film not to include original characters who do not feature somewhere in a fairy tale
-Fiona's parents had recommended Rumpelstiltskin by King Midas. In Greek mythology Midas wished for everything he touched to turn to gold. This would lead to tragedy because his daughter turned to gold and he died of starvation because any food or drink would turn to gold
-Since the movie deals with a crisis in Shrek and Fiona's marriage, several marriage counselors were brought on set to consult on how this would work with an animated movie
-One of the witch cronies for Rumpelstiltskin is named "Baba". This is a reference to Baba Yaga, a witch from Slavic/Russian folklore who supposedly lived in a house in the woods and stole children
-When it shows the trailer park where Rumpelstiltskin lives, there is a sign proclaiming "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here". This is said to be inscribed on the gates of Hell, according to the Dante Aligheri story The Divine Comedy, at least the first part, Dante's Inferno
