Did You Know?

-There was an Edgar Allan Poe story called The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether that is said to have inspired this film

-During the initial dinner where Dr. Edward Newgate (Jim Sturgess) is introduced to the patients, he points out the irony of one of the groundskeeper's names, Mickey Finn (David Thewlis). He makes a reference to slipping someone a Mickey, spiking their drink with a drug. The phrase "slip someone a Mickey" was coined after a man named Mickey Finn, who, in 1903, would spike the drinks of patrons at his inn in Chicago, Illinois and then rob them

-When Dr. Newgate is attempting to fix the bruising on his shoulder, and Eliza Graves assists him, there is a phrase on the wall. It says "What makes a man ill, also cures him."

-At an hour and fifteen minutes in, there is a party to celebrate the new year. Ironically, the song playing is "Danse Macabre"

-Ben Kingsley played another mental institution doctor in the 2010 film Shutter Island

-Both Sir Michael Caine and Jason Flemyng played the character of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in two different films. Jason Flemyng played this character in the 2003 film The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Sir Michael Caine played the character in the 1990 film Jekyll and Hyde

-Both David Thewlis and Brendan Gleeson appeared in two films of the highly successful Harry Potter series. David Thewlis appeared in the third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He played Professor Remus Lupin. Brendan Gleeson appeared in the fourth film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He played Professor Alastor Moody
