Random thought: related to music

Am I the only one who thinks that Blaze Bayley of Iron Maiden looks slightly similar to Peter Steele of Type O Negative? Just curious. At least when they were younger. Seeing Blaze Bayley now, wow!! What a difference time has made, and definitely not for the better, rofl! That picture of Blaze then is definitely different now. He's with a lot less hair and little more weight and I don't mean muscle, rofl!!

Day 17 - Favorite quote from your favorite book

The only one I can think of at the current time would be from Run to the Hills: Iron Maiden, the Authorized Biography. It's from the chapter about Dave Murray. "When I finally made some money with Maiden, I used the money to buy my parents a house so they wouldn't have to move anymore. I didn't know how long this was going to last, because if it didn't last, at least I could say I did something nice." I think this is what it was, something to this effect. I can't say that this is it, word for word, but it is something to that effect.

20 facts you may or may not know about Motorhead

Since the sad loss of both drummer "Philthy" Phil Taylor and bassist/frontman Ian Fraser Kilmister, better known as simply "Lemmy" of Motorhead within a month of each other last year, I think it would be fitting to do something related to Motorhead, in honor of these kind, loving, but hard rocking men. Here's 20 facts you may or may not know about Motorhead.
1
-"Motorhead" was not only the last song he wrote with his previous band Hawkwind; it was also the first song he used for the band of the same name with which he's famous

2
-When Lemmy couldn't get out onto a stage to perform, he took the next best alternative: working in the backstage crew, working for musicians. He did some stints working as a road manager for Emerson, Lake & Palmer and lugging the equipment for the Jimi Hendrix Experience
Wow, he's very handsome here
3
-Motorhead really hit it big with 1979's Overkill. The album cover is amazing and was designed by artist Joe Petagano, who designed it in less than two weeks
4
-"Dead Men Tell No Tales", from the band's Bomber album is about that album's producer Jimmy Miller, who was battling heroin addiction at the time
5
-When the song "Ace of Spades" was featured in the soundtrack for Rock Band 2, the lyrics were changed to reflect Lemmy's apparent immortality

6
-Drummer "Philthy" Phil Taylor was a reckless guy. He sustained a broken neck while drunkenly joking around on tour and instead of getting it repaired, he simply ignored it. An orange-sized lump developed on his neck as a result
7
-"Dancing on Your Grave" helped inspire the name Sepultura, one of Brazil's top names in thrash metal, since in Portugese "sepultura" means "grave"
8
-For the making of the band's video for "Killed by Death" in 1984, a stuntman was on the Harley Davidson that "Lemmy" drove through walls and walked out
9
-Michael Burston, aka "Wurzel", who joined the band in 1984, earned his nickname from a walking, talking scarecrow character while in the Army, which heavily appealed to Lemmy's love of military history
10
-Phil Campbell, who now plays guitar with Motorhead, started out in the NWOBHM band Persian Risk

11
-The demonic-looking train with the band's logo on the front of Orgasmatron represents the album's original title, "Ridin' with the Driver"
12
-Ed Stasium, who often worked with The Ramones, was supposed to produce the band's 1916 album, but was fired by Lemmy after he was caught trying to overdub Latin percussion onto the album without the band's consent
13
-"You Better Run", from 1992's March or Die, was changed to "You Better Swim" for an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants

14
-Howard Benson produced four of Motorhead's albums: 1993's Bastards and ending with 1998's Snake Bite Love

15
-Mikkey Dee is Motorhead's longest running drummer, who happens to be from Sweden. He is also of Greek descent, with his full birth name being Micael Kiriakos Delaoglou
16
-In Oct. 2001, Motorhead made a cameo on The Drew Carey Show, playing a song called "Sorry"

17
-Guitar legend Steve Vai makes an appearance on 2004's Inferno, specifically on the songs "Terminal Show" and "Down on Me"
18
-The coat of arms featured on the front of the Motorizer album depicts symbols representing each of the band members. The three lions represents England's Three Lions for Lemmy, Sweden's Three Crowns for Mikkey Dee, the Welsh Dragon for Phil Campbell, the Snaggletooth for the band
19
-The only album that the band's famous mascot has been absent from are 1996 Overnight Sensation and the unofficial On Parole. But this mascot is present on the front of Ace of Spades; it's just on belt buckles and jackets
Seeing Lemmy without facial hair is strange. I'm so used to seeing him with his trademark facial hair

20
-"Lemmy", who was born Ian Fraser Kilmister, earned his famous metal moniker from his constant requests of borrowing money, as in "Lemmy a fiver"

Random post of the day: Pics of Glenn Tipton

After checking out his Edge of the World album, I have to say I'm honestly amazed at his music. I never knew he could sing. He sounds very handsome when singing and is a very good singer, definitely different than the resident Judas Priest Metal God Rob Halford, but awesome in his own way. And to be honest, I only found out he had a solo career after reading Judas Priest: Heavy Metal Painkillers, a biography of one of the bigger names in metal. Here are some random pics of Glenn, who my sister seems to think is cute, even today, lol. Even I have to admit he's still handsome. He might have wrinkles, but no one stays young forever. The fact that he's still rail thin as always and still fits into leather pants and is still rocking with Priest: can you say awesome?

This is strange seeing Glenn with facial hair :O

Aww, how adorable

Very handsome

Looking very nice for his age :D

Rocking with the Metal God

This is something you'll never see Glenn do now: appear bare chested

I have this picture as my wallpaper at work. Every time someone sees it, they constantly ask me "Who's that? He's kind of cute". Hahahahahahaha!

This is too awesome!!

Paul Stanley visits a little girl in the hospital who was born with the same birth defect he suffered from.
For any fans of Kiss, if you are especially a fan of Paul Stanley, then more than likely, you may have read his 2014 memoir, Face the Music: A Life Exposed. If so, then you'll know that Paul Stanley was born with a rare birth defect called microtia, which affects the development of the ears and depending on the level of severity, also affects hearing. In his case, he was born with grade 3 unilateral microtia, meaning he was essentially born without a right ear. And 30 years later, he had reconstructive surgery to fix it. He supports a charity called AboutFace, which helps kids with facial differences and most recently, he made an extra special trip to a hospital in L.A. to visit a girl fresh from reconstructive surgery

Four year old Arabella Carter is from Canada and traveled to L.A. last week for reconstructive surgery. Stanley visited her in the hospital to see how she was doing. He is currently working with a charity called Mending Kids, which helps to raise money for kids who need reconstructive surgery for facial differences. Stanley said in a CNN interview a few years ago "I’ve had an implanted hearing aid for years now. This is a device that is usually given to children at an early age or to adults who have lost their hearing due to a medical condition. This has been an ongoing adjustment for me as my brain has never processed sound coming in from my right side."

Geezer Butler's post-brawl words

Well, according to the recent post I did about Black Sabbath guitarist Geezer Butler's arrest, he calls the situation an unfortunate incident. Somehow, I find it strange to see him in shorts and a t-shirt. I'm so used to seeing him wearing a black leather coat and all black clothing. But in the meantime, all of this was just a simple little mistake. Everyone makes mistakes. It doesn't matter if your famous or not. Everyone makes mistakes. And he's taking care of them. But it's kinda cool to know he still has a little fight in him still, kinda cool!!!! Rock on!!!
The 65 year old guitarist gave his fans a big thanks for their support. He posted some messages on his Twitter page to the effect of "Thx for your messages & support following the unfortunate altercation that occurred." All the fans are keeping their fingers crossed in the hopes that this will be sorted out before Black Sabbath comes together to record their alleged new album, due to start recording sometime this year.

Iron Man: My Life Through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath by Tony Iommi

Bet the title caught your attention, huh? Well, this is the title of an autobiography by none other than Black Sabbath lead guitarist Tony Iommi. My opinion of this book: FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!!! Perfect for any fan of Black Sabbath, whether it be long time fan or first time fan :D
The book takes you through the life of the famous black clothing-clad guitarist. From being born to Italian immigrants in England, to his days with his first band, the Rockin' Chevrolets, to eventually meeting Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Ward and forming Black Sabbath. Turns out, Ozzy was a year behind him in school, and is nowadays a year younger than him. Also, he used to bully Ozzy for some strange reason. Also, like most rockstars, he's a prankster. He likes to pull pranks. And they also know how to get him back. One night after pulling a prank on one of the guys, they got him back by having Ozzy knock on the door after he got a shower and somehow they got Tony to chase him down to Ozzy's room naked. So somehow, he ended up in the hall with no clothes on, clueless what to do. It also tells what happened to his fingers. A lot of people know he's missing the tips of two of his fingers on his right hand. Somehow, when he was younger, he had a job in a sheet metal factory in Birmingham, England, where he's from. One day, this woman, who ran a machine that used a giant steel cutter to bend metal, was out and Tony had to fill in. He lost concentration for a second and that was all it took to chop off the tips of his fingers. Being a natural reflex to pull away, he severed the tips of his fingers. When he was taken to the hospital, they brought the tips in a matchbox, but they had turned black from gangrene and were useless. They had to end up grafting skin from his arm and putting it over the stubs. Now on those fingers, he uses specially made thimbles to help him play and cut down on pain. He says that the two most important things he brings with him on tour is those thimbles and his cross. Another thing I never knew was that he has a scar along his upper lip and it's hidden by his facial hair. Somehow, he fell and gravel scraped his face above his lip, giving him a scar. He decided to hide it by growing a mustache

He was also married 4 times. His first wife was Susan Snowden, in the early 1970s, introduced by Black Sabbath manager Patrick Meehan. John Bonham, drummer for Led Zeppelin, served as best man. What led to the dissolving of this marriage was the troubled recording of the 1976 album Technical Ecstasy
-In 1980, he married a woman named Melinda, who was an American model. In 1983, along came his daughter Toni-Marie and the couple divorced in the mid 1980s. She banned him from seeing his daughter Toni and even later had him arrested for supposedly not paying child support. Toni-Marie is currently married to a guitarist from the band HIM

-In 1986, he married a woman named Valery and after 6 years, they married. She had a son from a previous relationship, named Jay. In a 1991 interview with Guitar World, he said he had a son and that he gave Tony a copy of Metallica's Black album
-He also briefly dated Lita Ford in the 1980s
-In 2005, he married Maria Sjoholm, lead singer for all girl rock band Drain STH. They met in 1998, when he was working on music for the band. After a year of talking and getting to know each other better, she relocated to England. On Aug. 19, 2005, they married at the Sunset Marquis hotel, with only one witness present: Eddie Van Halen. He says this wedding was the "best thing I ever did"

But one thing he never mentioned in the book is in 2012, he was diagnosed with lymphoma. As of January 2013, he has undergone successful treatment. Black Sabbath is kind enough and awesome enough to rearrange tour dates so that Tony can fly to the UK every 6 weeks for an antibody vaccine.

And in Birmingham, where the band is based, they have their own Walk of Fame, in which Tony has a star with his name on it. Also, a shocking bit of history here. When he was doing a solo album, he wanted Dave Holland from Judas Priest to play drums on it. But the real shocker came when he found out Holland was molesting boys. He said he didn't want a child molester on his album, so he had the drum parts Holland played re-done by someone else
