Did You Know?
-To film a good majority of the more explicit sex scenes, remote control cameras were used to make it a little more private for the actors
-During some scenes, where pubic hair might have been seen, it was digitally added while Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan used sheer modesty patches.
-Dakota Johnson had to use body makeup to cover up some of her tattoos, since in the story, Ana has no tattoos
-After filming, Dakota took several pairs of underwear from the set, claiming they were too comfortable to leave behind as well as a flogger
-The red room scenes were the last to be filmed since the two actors were now more comfortable with each other
-Jamie Dornan admitted that while he was doing research into the type of person Christian Grey was, he visited a private sex dungeon
-To get into shape for the movie, Dornan went through a punishing 3 hour-a-day workout to get that "ripped" look. He figured his character was supposed to be the epitome of male beauty. Prior to acting, though, he was an underwear model and had always been in good shape
-Those who practice BDSM consider this book offensive because it supposedly portrays negative stereotypes for those who practice it. It supposedly has dangerous behavior and does not follow the safe, consensual or even sane idea of sado-masochism, bondage, dominant/submissive relationships. (Despite being considered offensive, if those who knock the story would bother to read the entire series, in Fifty Shades Darker, the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey, they'd find out that he was given up for adoption and the woman who taught him that was a Dominatrix and he was made the submissive. The second and third books go deep into his personal history, such as why he doesn't like to be touched, etc.)
-Dakota Johnson requested that her parents, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, not see the movie because she considered it too inappropriate
-About 14 minutes and 17 seconds of the movie are sex scenes
-When Jamie Dornan threw Dakota Johnson onto the bed, she got a minor case of whiplash
-Jamie Dornan revealed that he would not be doing full frontal nudity for the movie. There were contracts set to state that his genitals would not be seen at all. It upset some fans of the book at the thought of the filmmakers toning down the graphic sex scenes.
-Some of the actors considered for the role of Christian Grey included: Robert Pattinson, Chris Evans, Matt Bomer, Charlie Hunnam. In fact, Hunnam was all set to film the role and scenes, but he had to withdraw because the shooting schedule interfered with his shooting schedule for the biker show Sons of Anarchy. In the end, the role went to Irish actor Jamie Dornan

Jamie Dornan |
-On the set, to maintain Christian Grey's clean shaven appearance, Jamie Dornan had to shave daily. He was thankful he didn't have to shave his chest, as he says he didn't have a lot of chest hair naturally. Normally he prefers facial hair
-All the equipment found in Christian's red room of play are incredibly accurate to real BDSM (Bondage, dominance and submission) play except for the cable ties, which are said to cause permanent damage to the submissive
-The riding crop used on Anastasia is, according to BDSM experts, far too advanced and not realistic for use on a beginner like Ana
-During the sex scenes, director Sam-Taylor Johnson played soft music to ease the actors tension-There was an episode of Law & Order: SVU, titled "Twenty Five Acts", which contained a book on BDSM called Twenty Five Acts, which is very similar to Fifty Shades of Grey, including a scene where the two main characters kiss in an elevator
-When Ana sees the Red Room for the first time, the look of horror on her face is genuine. It wasn't scripted. However, Jamie Dornan wanted to feel familiar with the items
-Dakota Johnson says her favorite scene in the movie is where Ana loses her virginity to Christian
-In the movie, Ana only mentions "yellow" and "red", her safe words, once. While in real BDSM play, traffic light colors are used. Green means "continue as you are", yellow means "slow down", red means "stop"
