Anthony Joseph Periera was born on September 10, 1950, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He is the lead guitarist, occasional back up vocalist and co songwriter for the band Aerosmith. He's of Portugese descent from his father's side and Italian descent from his mother's side. He was married to Elyssa Jeret from 1975-1982. And while married to her, they had a son they named Adrian. His current wife is Billie Paulette Perry. They have 2 sons, Tony and Roman, as well as son Aaron from Billie's previous marriage. Tony and Aaron are the founding members of a band called TAB the Band

The guitar he uses most frequently is a Gibson Les Paul. He has used many types of Gibson Les Pauls over the years since the 1970s. And from time to time, he'll use a Fender Stratocaster, the same kind of guitar that Rolling Stone guitarists Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards use. But for Joe, they had to be strung special for him because he plays left handed.
