Plot
-FDR Foster(Chris Pine) and Tuck Henson(Tom Hardy) are 2 CIA agents and also best friends. They are sent to Hong Kong to prevent an international criminal named Heinrich(Til Schweiger) from getting his hands on a weapon of mass destruction. But, like all spy movies, something goes wrong, resulting in the death of Heinrich's brother Jonas and Heinrich is now swearing revenge on them. For their own safety, their boss, Collins(Angela Bassett) assigns them to desk duty upon returning to America

-FDR has a reputation as a womanizer, whose cover job is a cruise ship captain, while Tuck, who presents himself as a travel agent, has an ex-wife named Katie(Abigail Spencer) and a son named Joe(John Paul Ruttan). After seeing a commercial for an online dating site, Tuck gets the idea to sign himself up and he manages to get paired with Lauren Scott(Reese Witherspoon), a product test executive who is dealing with the recent engagement of her ex-boyfriend. Her best friend Trish(Chelsea Handler) has signed her up for the same site. FDR insists on being Tuck's backup for the date and he hides nearby, but Tuck and Lauren hit it off immediately.

-Later on, FDR runs into Lauren at a video store and tries to hit on her, not knowing she is dating Tuck. But she immediately notices he's a ladies man and blows him off. Curious, FDR crashes into one of Lauren's test groups and convinces her to go on a date with him, which also goes good. Lauren feels guilty about dating 2 guys at the same time, but is convinced by Trish to try and make the best of it.

-FDR and Tuck soon find out they're seeing the same girl and decide not to tell her that they know each other, to interfere with the other one's date, or have sex with her and let her come to the decision who to choose. They soon start breaking their own rules as they use their CIA technology to spy on her and discover what she likes, and also to mess up one another. FDR and Lauren eventually have sex, and Tuck and Lauren almost get to that point, before Lauren interrupts, feeling guilty.

-One day, Lauren invites Tuck to lunch, while FDR finds out that Heinrich has come to America to swear revenge on them. He interrupts the date to warn Tuck, but Tuck does not believe him, and they start fighting, during which Lauren discovers they know each other and decides to leave with Trish. At that time, they are taken by Heinrich and his men, who are chased by FDR and Tuck

-FDR and Tuck rescue Lauren and Trish after a car chase, in which they tell the 2 women they are CIA agents and on Lauren's tip, they shoot the headlights on Heinrich's car, setting off the airbag and sending the car spiraling out of control. FDR and Tuck urge Lauren to come to their side, and she chooses FDR as Heinrich dies when his car goes off a bridge and crashes below. Lauren decided to be with FDR and Tuck makes amends with him. Tuck soon reconciles with Katie and they get married.

-Later on, FDR and Tuck are about to parachute out of a Chinook helicopter when FDR tells Tuck that he'll marry Lauren, and also that he had sex with Katie before she met Tuck, and no longer feels guilt about it because Tuck had sex with Lauren. Tuck, however, tells FDR that they did not go all the way and angrily fights FDR out of the helicopter.
