Something You Probably Never Thought You'd See

Joe Elliott, front man for legendary hard rock band Def Leppard, has combined talents with Swedish metal band Ghost, specifically their front man Tobias Forge, to perform the band's song "Spillways".

The new version sounds similar to the original, but there's an additional layer of melody to the song, with Elliott's iconic vocals adding to it. He alternates with Forge on vocals. This song was born on Ghost's 2022 album Impera, Forge admitted to being inspired by Def Leppard during production on the album. "I think they were great. Going into this record, I thought I would see if I could do it a little more like Def Leppard did it." Forge told Metal Hammer in a 2022 interview.

The admiration was mutual from Elliott. He admitted that his "go-to" album last year was Impera. Elliott even admitted that he was introduced to the band Ghost by his fellow Def Leppard band mate and guitarist Phil Collen. "He said 'Here, have you heard about this band Ghost? It's like this kind of Scando goth-metal but with brilliant melodies'". Elliott stated "I was really intrigued, so I asked him to Dropbox me the new album. I listened to it all, and I thought it was absolutely stunning. It's like a whole new genre of music - it's way more Toto than death metal or any of that stuff. It's like the song "Spillways". It starts off like "Hold the Line" by Toto or "Jane" by Jefferson Starship - one of those classic '70s songs that begin on the piano before these big, chunky chords come in."

Ghost are nominated for Best Metal Performance at this year's Grammys on Feb. 5 and also continuing their tour dates throughout Europe in the summer. It goes from May to July while Def Leppard is continuing their tour with Motley Crue
