- Harlan Howard, one of Nashville's greatest songwriters, is born in Lexington, Ky.

-Patsy Cline is born in Gore, Va

- Ron McKernan is born in San Bruno, Calif. He is best known as the keyboard player for The Grateful Dead
- Latin guitarist Jose Feliciano is born in Puerto Rico
- Kelly Groucutt of Electric Light Orchestra is born

-Atlanta Rhythm Section keyboard player Dean Daughtry is born

-Paul Anka embarks on first tour of Southeast Asia
