Summary
-For generations, Virginia schools have been under segregation, right within sight of the Washington Monument within the nation's capital. One black and one white high school are closed and the students are sent to T.C. Williams High School to integrate. This is the year that a coach who was hired to train the black football team is now head coach to train the white team as well. So he sends them all to a football camp to get them to work together as a team. Based on actual events in 1971,

-In the film, Denzel Washington's character takes them to a Civil War cemetery to talk about race relations. Before this movie, he had acted in a Civil War movie, Glory, playing a soldier in the 54th Massachusetts, the first all black regiment in the American Army
-In the movie, Dr. Day was shown as the school board chairman. Back in the day, Dr. Day was the first black to serve on the Alexandria School Board. He was on the board the year George Washington and Hammond High were merged to achieve integration. The actual school board chairman was Norman Schrott
-The school used for T.C. Williams High School is Druid Hills High School, in DeKalb County, Georgia
