Concert Mishaps

Wanna know some of the worst things to happen at a concert? Read here!
Mishaps

1969
Rolling Stones concert at Altamont
-With the Rolling Stones headlining a free concert at the Altamont Speedway in northern California, no one knew that there wsa disaster to come. Unfortunately, the West Coast division of the Hells Angels made things worse. 18 year old Meredith Hunter was fatally stabbed by a member of the Hells Angels. There were also 3 other deaths there, 2 people drowned to death in a drainage ditch and one was killed in a hit and run
1979
The Who at Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, OH
-11 people died this night when The Who were performing at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, OH. This was when "festival seating" was being used. For those unfamiliar with this method, it's "first come, first serve" meaning you had to almost duke it out with other concert goers for the best seats. 8,000 fans stampeded the place to get good seats and in the process, killed 11 people. Roger daltrey was utterly heartbroken at this and wanted to cancel the rest of the tour, while Pete Townshend proclaimed "If we don't play tomorrow, we'll never play again"
1992
Metallica & Guns N' Roses in Montreal
-After Metallica front man James Hetfield was severely burned by pyrotechnics, they had to cut their concert short. Axl rose then pissed the audience off even more by showing up late and then leaving an hour into the concert due to "vocal issues". The crowd, consisting of over 50,000 people, began rioting, smashing up chairs, generally destroying the venue in every possible way. The police were dispatched and even had to use tear gas to stop the riot

1999
Limp Bizkit at Woodstock 1999
-Hot temperatures, long lines for water and just bad planning led to this incident. Destruction and violence took place at Woodstock 1999. This retained VERY LITTLE of the free-spirit, good vibes and good music that the famous 1969 Woodstock had to offer. Alot of the destruction and violence was only being made worse by Limp Bizkit front man Fred Durst, who was egging them on to do worse during their set
2000
Pearl Jam at Roskilde Festival
-The concert in Denmark left 9 people dead, most of them trampled as fans tried to rush the stage. Pearl Jam, noted for their safety-conscious ways, immediately stopped the concert as soon as they knew what was going on, but it was too late. They even added a touching lyric at the end of their track 'Love Boat Captain': "Nine friends we'll never know... tow years ago today"
2003
Great White in Rhode Island
-It's like 'Smoke on the Water' Mach Two. When Great White took the stage in Rhode Island in 2003, a massive pyrotechnic issue ignited the soundproof insulation that caused a fire and killed 100 people, including the band's guitarist Ty Longley. 200+ concert goers also suffered from smoke inhalation, burns and various other injuries

2004
Damageplan in Columbus, OH
-Nathan Gale, a deranged fan of Damageplan climbed on stage and shot former Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darell multiple times in the head during a concert with his new band Damageplan. 3 others were killed before Gale was finally restrained by police. Darrell's brother and band member Vinnie found their way back to the stage, joining all-star metal band Hellyeah

2010
German Love Parade Festival
-500+ people were injured and 21 were killed at this German electronic music festival. It drew 1 million+ people to an area that could only hold about 250,000. There were various tunnels into the concert that quickly became overcrowded and capacity issues began presenting themselves. As a result, all future Love Parades are cancelled
2
011
Indiana State Fair
-7 people died as a result of massive windstorms. The stage collapsed, where country-rock band Sugarland was due to perform. The band was stunned at what happened, and some people were even trying to sue the band for what happened. Personally, whatever ignorant morons set the stage during almost gale-force windstorms should be to blame

2011
Pukkelpop Music Festival in Belgium
-Severe weather in Belgium caused the collapse of stages at the Pukkelpop Festival. Diverse acts were due to perform, suh as the Foo Fighters, The Offspring and others. This left 4 people dead and the rest of the festival was canceled
